![]() About the many music editors, creators, trackers, and composers that were written for the Commodore 64.Īnd here's another one, by Hermit this time. About the people who created these tunes (lthough well-known by many, virtually unknown to the 'public'). Whenever I hear the music starting when one of my old games is finally done loading, I think about the times I first played these games. The packs sporting a pill picture takes a bit of getting used to, but I'm more likely to play using another Doom source port anyway. I personally feel that a wider FOV makes it feel more realistic, but it doesn't bother me much. Also, the two secret levels in Doom 2 have been altered to remove any symbol related to World War II, including the level titles. The fact that the console key is disabled by default doesn't seem to make things better.īut most complaints seem to be about the classic games: since the Red Cross doesn't like the use of their emblem, the stimpacks, medikits, and berserk packs have been changed to show a red-and-white pill instead of the traditional plus sign. Though decise wisely a lot of people are complaining about the lighting changes in Doom 3, as well as the lowering in FOV (Field of View, or how much of your surroundings you can see at any one time). With Doom 3: BFG Edition, you get all of the above at once. The Ultimate Doom greets you with its four episodes, and Doom 2 comes with the most recent official Doom 2 add-on: No Rest for The Living (released in 2010 on Xbox Live). ![]() It also holds the original first two games, Doom and Doom II: Hell on Earth. It features a flashlight which can be used with any weapon. And since Friday, also Europeans could get their hands on Doom 3: BFG Edition.ĭoom 3: The Dark Lord Satan Edition (which is its official name) is a remastered Doom 3 including the add-on Resurrection of Evil and The Lost Mission, a cut section from the original release of Doom 3. I never realised before now that analog synths could go out of tune.Seven days ago for Australians. No matter what key I played, I couldn't get any of them to match up with the I got close by setting the 'detune' parameter to 09 on the C64 patch options, but still not perfect. Tonight I tried to play the C64 as more of a synth, over another song - but the tuning issues again got in the way. I eventually got it to sound right by setting 'Transpose' in LSDJ to 05, but that doesn't solve the real problem. ![]() It wasn't till afterwards that I realised something was off with the C64's notes. ![]() The other day I hooked up my Gameboy running LSDJ with an Arduinoboy to play the main melody line through the C64 and double it up in the recording. It's hard to read the dials so it could be that I'm missing something really obvious, but I'd have expected some sort of more audible output with at least one of the default patches.Īfter a bit of a fight, I've got my C64 set up with a MSSIAH cart, and it's outputting sound grand. No big SID sound like I'm getting from the diagnostics.Īm I doing something stupid? Probably. I can hear some sort of change in the audio output - in that there's a very very quiet click or whirr at different frequencies depending on the patch, but there's no other output. Play the keys with different Patches loaded. Set the Synth to MIDI mode so the screen goes blank.ģ. Go to Settings and set the MIDI option to 'C64 keyboard'.Ģ. The one problem is that when I get into Mono Synth and set it up to be played with the C64 keyboard, there's no audio output.ġ. Everything is working great, and the diagnostic tests show that the SID chip is fine - loud sounds coming out in response. I dug out my old C64 and MSSIAH cart combo and got it rigged up with an external monitor, with the intention to play it using the mono synth program.
